Sports Mole previews Tuesday's International Friendlies clash between Northern Ireland and Hungary, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Northern Ireland will hope to make it two wins from two in this month's international break when they host Hungary in a friendly on Tuesday.

This is the first meeting between the two countries since they drew 1-1 in European Championship qualifying in 2015.

Match preview

Northern Ireland left it late to secure a 3-1 win in their friendly away in Luxembourg on Friday night, as Steven Davis and Gavin Whyte came off the bench to score in the final 10 minutes after Josh Magennis's earlier opener had been cancelled out.

Ian Baraclough's men are on a three-match unbeaten streak; the nation have not gone four matches without defeat since 2019 when Michael O'Neill was in charge.

They are also unbeaten in their last four matches at Windsor Park, keeping clean sheets in all of those fixtures including a 0-0 draw against European champions Italy in November.

Baraclough is continuing to prepare for the start of Northern Ireland's Nations League C campaign in June after they were relegated from League B last year.

The Green and White Army have only won one of their previous six meetings with Hungary, losing on four occasions.

Marco Rossi's side – who have competed at the last two European Championships – are ranked 41st in the world, 13 places above Northern Ireland.

The Hungarians suffered a 1-0 defeat at home against Serbia in a friendly on Thursday night, as Zsolt Nagy's first half own goal proved to be their undoing.

It was a first loss in four matches for the Magyars, who finished fourth in England's World Cup qualifying group and drew 1-1 at Wembley in October.

Hungary will begin life in Nations League A in June, where they will again meet England, following promotion from League B last year.

Team News

Northern Ireland will have goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell available after he did not travel to Luxembourg and instead played for Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

Jonny Evans was a late call-up to the squad and played just over an hour against Luxembourg, but will not feature in this game as he manages his return from a foot injury.

Paddy McNair missed Thursday's fixture with a bruised foot and will be assessed ahead of this match to see if he can feature.

Hungary may change things up between the sticks with Denes Dibusz currently competing with Peter Gulacsi for the number one spot.

Rotation may also present starting opportunities for Akos Kecskes and Daniel Gazdag, who came off the bench on Thursday.

Barnsley man Callum Styles, who has Hungarian grandparents, made his debut as a substitute against Serbia so may hope for a start here.

Northern Ireland possible starting lineup:
Peacock-Farrell; Flanagan, Cathcart, Brown; Dallas, Thompson, C. Evans, Saville, Ferguson; Magennis, Whyte

Hungary possible starting lineup:
Dibusz; Lang, Botka, Kecskes; Nego, Gazdag, A. Nagy, Styles; Sallai, Szoboszlai; Szalai

We say: Northern Ireland 0-0 Hungary

This will be a tougher test for Northern Ireland than their friendly against Luxembourg, but they are hard to beat at Windsor Park and we think that this game could end level.
