Charlton Athletic share a goalless draw with Nottingham Forest in the Championship despite creating a number of chances at the City Ground.

Nottingham Forest have held on to secure a goalless draw in their match against Charlton Athletic in the Championship at the City Ground.

The home side were the more attacking at the start of the match as they pressed for an early goal, but Chris Burke curled his effort high, before an ambitious 30-yard strike from Henri Lansbury went narrowly wide.

Nick Pope remained busy in the Charlton goal as Burke got another shot away, while Jamie Ward tried to drill it in from near the penalty spot, but the young keeper stopped both finishes.

The Addicks started to see more of the ball as the first half progressed, with their first chance falling to Simon Makienok just over 20 minutes in, but he headed over from a corner.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson tried his luck from a free kick before the break, before setting up Makienok for another header, but the visitors could not find the back of the net in the opening 45 minutes.

Lansbury continued to pose a threat for the home side after the restart, drilling a low finish just wide before the wall denied the striker as he tried to thump a free kick in.

Charlton started to threaten again after the hour mark when Reza Ghoochannejhad came off the bench, setting up Makienok for a header only to see Dorus de Vries pull off a diving stop, before Patrick Bauer was denied from point-blank range by the Forest keeper.

It still looked like the visitors could steal all three points with a late goal as the match headed into the final 10 minutes, but Gudmundsson's free kick failed to find any of his teammates in the Forest box, although Lansbury came close down the other end with a similar set-piece effort.

The two sides clashed late on as a late challenge on Chris Solly left the Charlton captain floored, with Makienok reacting angrily, forcing the referee to separate players from both sides.

Charlton did not stop pushing in stoppage time, but the home side had numbers back to make sure they did not slip up in the final moments, while Pope managed to claim a long ball forward in the final seconds to stop Forest snatching the victory.

The result leaves Charlton fifth in the table, while Forest sit 11th.
