Werder Bremen have eased their Bundesliga relegation worries by defeating fellow strugglers Nuremberg 2-0 at Stadion Nurnberg.
Franco di Santo came close to opening the scoring for the visiting side, but his shot from the edge of the box came back off the bar.
Bremen again came within a few inches of scoring, as Aaron Hunt received a pass close to the opposition area before firing a shot away at goal which came back off the post for the second time.
Robin Dutt's team did eventually find a way through before the break, however, as Di Santo latched onto a rebound to lash the ball home to make it 1-0.
The second came after 66 minutes when Phillipp Bargfrede was given too much space, firing a strike into the bottom corner of the net.
Josip Drmic came close to pulling a goal back late on, but his header from six yards out glanced off the bar to keep the scoreline at 2-0.
