Nuremberg remain 17th in the Bundesliga with one game to play following a disappointing home defeat to Hannover in the Bundesliga on Saturday afternoon.
In such an important game it was a disastrous start for the home side as they went behind after just five minutes to a Szabolcs Huszti strike on the counter-attack.
The hosts came forward and came close through Adam Hlousek, but his effort from the edge of the box was tipped behind for a corner by Ron-Robert Zieler.
It was an exciting end-to-end game and Artjoms Rudnevs was next to try his luck, although his effort on the turn from inside the box went narrowly wide.
Hannover started to up the pressure and could have doubled their lead just after the break as Leonardo Bittencourt's effort was pushed around the post by Raphael Schafer.
Nuremberg remained well in the game until Manuel Schmiedebach finished low from a tight angle in the box to double the lead, which flattened the hosts as they fell to defeat.
