Oldham Athletic recorded an encouraging win over Premier League opposition as second-half goals from Timothee Dieng and William Gros gave them a 2-1 victory over Newcastle United at Boundary Park tonight.
Debutant Siem de Jong gave the Magpies the lead when he fired home from the edge of the area after his free kick had been blocked by the Oldham Athletic wall in an otherwise dull first half.
Oldham's Timothee Dieng levelled the game when he headed home from a corner on 68 minutes as the home side took control.
Their winner came 10 minutes later when triallist William Gros struck a low effort towards goal that squirmed under Jak Alnwick's body.
