Thousands of people sign a petition urging League One outfit Oldham Athletic not to sign former Sheffield United striker and convicted rapist Ched Evans.

Thousands of people have signed a petition calling on League One outfit Oldham Athletic not to sign former Sheffield United striker Ched Evans.

The 26-year-old, who served half of a five-year prison sentence after being found guilty of raping a 19-year-old woman in 2011, is believed to be close to signing a contract with the Latics.

According to The Daily Star, more than 3,000 people have signed a new petition addressed to Oldham chairman Simon Corney, asking him to reconsider the rumoured deal.

Professional Footballers' Association chief executive Gordon Taylor has revealed that an unnamed League One club will hold a press conference regarding negations with Evans on Monday.
