Michael Appleton says that he will look into the prospect of keeping Fulham loanee Jordan Evans at Oxford United beyond the end of his initial two-month deal.

Oxford United boss Michael Appleton has admitted that he is interested in keeping Jordan Evans at the club beyond his initial two-month loan spell.

The Fulham left-back linked up with the League Two automatic promotion chasers at the end of November to gain some regular playing time.

Evans had never previously featured at senior level prior to joining Oxford, with a place on the bench against Stoke City in the League Cup earlier this season the closest he came to doing so.

However, the 20-year-old has been quick to make an impression on his new teammates by scoring a 35-yard free kick against Yeovil Town in midweek to set up a place in the Football League Trophy final next month.

Speaking to the Oxford Mail, Appleton said: "We're a little bit short in that area and we have been for a long time. Joe [Skarz] has been ever-present for us and is seven out of 10 every week, but he does need pushing at times, as everyone does to keep performance levels high.

"If we get the opportunity then it's something we'd look to do. I think Jordan is in a good place and is enjoying himself, he likes the club and we'll see where we get to.

"It was a fantastic strike, he's more than capable of doing that on a regular basis. He's got great set piece delivery, he's got a wand of a left foot and will be delighted with his full debut."

Under the terms of his current loan agreement, Evans will be eligible to play in the first leg of the Southern Area final first-leg meeting with Millwall, but will return to his parent club prior to the return tie.
