Peterborough United have advanced to the second round of the League Cup with a 4-0 win over Southend United.
Southend nearly took the lead after eight minutes, but Ryan Hall's strike was just pushed wide by Robert Olejnik
Peterborough went ahead, however, after 12 minutes when Lee Tomlin found the bottom corner after smart work from George Boyd.
Peterborough continued to dominate the opening half, and it was quickly two, and then three for the home side when Paul Taylor and Joe Newell got in on the act.
Southend might have cut the score to 3-1 moments into the second period, but Freddy Eastwood just fired an effort over the bar.
They paid for the mistake just before the hour mark when Boyd added a goal of his own to extend the lead to 4-0.
Both sides made a host of changes in the latter stages, but the score remained the same as Peterborough booked their spot in the next round.
