Marcus Maddison's first-half double secured a 2-1 victory for Peterborough United over Colchester United at London Road in League One.
Colchester had the first real chance of the game when George Moncur's shot from outside the box was saved by Ben Alnwick, and two minutes later Conor Washington could have opened the scoring for the home side but could only poke wide from close range.
On the half-hour mark, the game exploded into life when Darren Ambrose's pass released Gavin Massey, and the midfielder's first-time cross was smashed in by Macauley Bonne.
That goal seemed to wake the home side up, however, and Maddison fired into the top corner just over a minute later for the equaliser.
A back-and-forth part of the game was completed 11 minutes before the break when Maddison's low shot from the edge of the area squirmed past Elliot Parish to turn the game on its head.
Posh pressed for a third but could have found themselves down to 10 men when Alnwick was only saw yellow for handling outside his area to stop Massey running through on goal.
Despite that slice of good fortune, the home side will feel they deserved the three points, after missing chances to put the game beyond doubt in the closing stages.
