How Portugal could line up against Germany

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Portugal could line up in Saturday's Euro 2020 clash with Germany.

Portugal boss Fernando Santos is expected to resist the temptation to make changes to his starting XI for Saturday's Euro 2020 clash with Germany in Munich.

The holders opened their Group F challenge with a 3-0 win over Hungary last time out, meaning that a win in this match would guarantee their spot in the knockout round of the competition.

Nuno Mendes was forced to train away from the main group on Thursday due to a slight thigh problem, but Portugal do not have any other concerns heading into this match.

Rafa Silva, Andre Silva, Ruben Neves and Renato Sanches are among those pushing for spots in the side, should Santos decide to make alterations against Germany this weekend.

However, a victory in Munich would allow the head coach to rest a number of key players against France in their final group game, meaning that it could be a case of same again for this match.

Cristiano Ronaldo, fresh from becoming the all-time leading goalscorer in the European Championship history, should again lead the line with support from Bernardo Silva, Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Jota.

Portugal have a lot of options for change in the middle of the park, but Danilo and William Carvalho were impressive as a two against Hungary and should therefore retain their spots.

Nelson Semedo started at right-back, meanwhile, following Joao Cancelo's withdrawal, and the Wolverhampton Wanderers defender is expected to feature from the first whistle once again.

Portugal possible starting lineup: Patricio; Semedo, Pepe, Dias, Guerreiro; Danilo, Carvalho; Bernardo, Fernandes, Jota; Ronaldo
