Paris Saint-Germain vs. AC Milan: Head-to-head record and past meetings

Ahead of Wednesday's Champions League clash between Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan, Sports Mole looks at the head-to-head record and previous meetings between the two clubs.

Another enticing showdown in the Champions League's 'Group of Death' takes place on Wednesday night as Paris Saint-Germain take on AC Milan at the Parc des Princes.

PSG were put to the sword at a raucous St James' Park in their last European outing, losing 4-1 to Newcastle United, but still sit above Wednesday's opponents in Group F courtesy of their matchday one triumph over Borussia Dortmund.

Milan, meanwhile, are yet to score but also yet to concede in this season's competition, having drawn 0-0 against both Newcastle and Dortmund so far.

Here, Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at the head-to-head record and previous meetings between the two sides.

Head-to-head record

Previous meetings: 4
PSG wins: 0
Draws: 2
AC Milan wins: 2

Despite being two of the most recognisable names in European football today, these two sides have not crossed paths on a competitive basis since February 2001, when they met twice in the space of six days in the second group phase of the Champions League.

On both of those occasions they drew 1-1, with the most recent clash seeing Jose Mari rescue a point for Milan with a 90th-minute equaliser after Laurent Robert had given PSG the lead.

In the reverse fixture at San Siro it was Milan who took the lead through Leonardo, only for Nicolas Anelka to quickly restore parity and ultimately earn a draw.

Neither side made it through the group stage on that occasion, but there was a more decisive double-header between the teams in 1995 when they faced off in the semi-finals of the competition.

Zvonimir Boban's 90th-minute winner in the first leg in Paris had given Milan a significant advantage, which they added to with two Dejan Savicevic goals at San Siro to secure a 3-0 aggregate victory which put them into the final, where they were beaten by Ajax.

PSG are therefore still searching for their first-ever win over Milan, and their record against Italian clubs in general leaves plenty to be desired, with only five wins from 23 previous meetings.

That said, three of those wins have come in their last three such games, including beating Juventus home and away in last season's group stage - the former being only their second-ever home win in 11 meetings with Serie A opposition.

Milan, meanwhile, are unbeaten on their last five visits to France stretching back to 2002-03, although their overall record on those shores stands at an even four wins, four draws and four defeats from 12 trips.

Home or away, Milan have won 12 and lost seven of their 26 meetings with French clubs in total, with their most memorable such encounter seeing them lose to Marseille in the 1992-93 Champions League final - the inaugural season of the competition following its revamp.
