Sports Mole previews Saturday's Ligue 1 clash between Bordeaux and Paris Saint-Germain, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Paris Saint-Germain will be looking to bounce back from Wednesday's shock home defeat to Rennes when they travel to Bordeaux on Saturday afternoon.

Thomas Tuchel's side have now lost twice in Ligue 1 this season, but a total of 15 points still sees the reigning champions top the division - three points ahead of fifth-placed Bordeaux.

Match preview

Bordeaux have made an encouraging start to the 2019-20 campaign, collecting 12 points from their seven Ligue 1 matches to sit fifth in the table. They are among the highest scorers in the league with 12 goals and have only lost once - winning three and drawing the other three.

It is difficult to look too much into the league table at this stage with Bordeaux just three points off top but also just four points ahead of 14th spot. Paulo Sousa's side are unbeaten since the opening weekend of the campaign, though, and recorded an impressive 3-1 victory at Amiens on Wednesday night.

The goals have been shared around this season with Josh Maja, Samuel Kalu, Jimmy Briand, Nicolas de Preville and Hwang Ui-jo among those on the scoresheet in Ligue 1, while they also have plenty of experience at the back in the shape of former Arsenal captain Laurent Koscielny.

Bordeaux have not actually beaten PSG in Ligue 1 since March 2015, which is a run of eight matches without recording a win. The French champions have already lost twice in the league this term, though, and Bordeaux certainly have the players to harm Tuchel's side on Saturday afternoon.

A poor end to the 2018-19 campaign saw Sousa's side lose six of their final seven league matches to finish in 14th spot in the table. Les Girondins have started this season in impressive fashion, though, and will be looking to follow in the footsteps of Rennes and Reims on Saturday afternoon.

On Wednesday night, PSG lost at home in the league for the first time since May 2018 as Reims ran out 2-0 winners. Hassane Kamara and Boulaye Dia scored the goals for the visitors, who only had 28% possession but managed 13 shots during a strong performance in the French capital.

PSG looked a shadow of the team that beat Real Madrid 3-0 in the Champions League on home soil, and although it was far from their strongest XI, the result was still a huge shock.

Neymar could not make anything happen in the final third alongside Pablo Sarabia and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, while the suspended Marco Verratti was sorely missed in the middle of the park.

PSG also lost 2-1 at Rennes earlier this season, while a number of their wins have hardly been convincing - 2-0 at Metz, 1-0 at home to Strasbourg and 1-0 against Lyon. Five victories sees them top the table at this stage, although they are joined on 15 points by Angers, while Lille and Nantes are just two points behind.

In terms of what is ahead, the French champions will travel to Galatasaray for their second Champions League group match on October 1 before hosting Angers next weekend. The fans have been disappointed with what they have seen thus far, and an improvement will be demanded on Saturday.

Team News

Bordeaux have no fresh injury concerns from the team that beat Amiens 3-1 on Wednesday night, and it would not be a surprise to see the same XI sent onto the field.

Teenage attacker Yacine Adli - who left PSG in January - scored twice from a wide forward position and should continue in the XI, while Briand and Francois Kamano are also expected to keep their spots in the final third of the field.

Further back, Koscielny should start in the middle of a three-man defence, but the likes of Maja and Ui-jo might have to make do with spots on the bench once again.

As for PSG, Verratti is available once again after sitting out the defeat to Reims through suspension, but the likes of Colin Dagba, Julian Draxler, Thilo Kehrer and Edinson Cavani are all still injured.

Kylian Mbappe has missed his team's last five matches with a hamstring problem, but the France international is expected to be available on Saturday afternoon.

Angel Di Maria, Marquinhos and Thomas Meunier should also all return to the starting XI having been named on the bench during the week, with Choupo-Moting and Sarabia among those who could drop out.

Bordeaux possible starting lineup: Costil; Sitoe, Koscielny, Pablo; Kwateng, Otavio, Tchouameni, Kalu; Kamano, Briand, Adli

PSG possible starting lineup: Navas; Meunier, Marquinhos, Kimpembe, Bernat; Verratti, Paredes, Herrera; Neymar, Mbappe, Di Maria

We say: Bordeaux 1-2 PSG

It would not be a surprise to see Bordeaux pick up a positive result on Saturday afternoon, but Mbappe's expected return would be huge for the visitors. With that in mind, we fancy Tuchel's side to bounce back from their surprise home loss on Wednesday night.
