Paris Saint-Germain manager Christophe Galtier has reportedly seen his position come under threat amid a dropoff in form for the French champions.

The 56-year-old took over from Mauricio Pochettino at the end of the 2021-22 season, leaving Nice in acrimonious circumstances after just one year at the Allianz Riviera.

Galtier - who beat PSG to the 2020-21 Ligue 1 title while in charge of Lille - won the Trophee des Champions immediately after taking control of the reins and has unsurprisingly led Les Parisiens to the top of the table this season.

PSG have taken 54 points from 23 games this season to sit five points clear of Marseille at the top of the table, although their form since the New Year has been far from perfect.

This month alone, PSG have been knocked out of the Coupe de France by Marseille, while also losing the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie to Bayern Munich.

Kingsley Coman scored the only goal of the game in that 1-0 win at the Parc des Princes for Bayern, prior to which PSG were deservedly beaten 3-1 in Ligue 1 by Monaco.

By succumbing to defeat to Bayern in midweek, PSG suffered three successive losses in all tournaments for the first time since 2011, when they were managed by Antoine Kombouare.

Galtier is contracted to the French champions until the end of next season, but according to RMC Sport - via Get French Football News - the 56-year-old's stay is now at risk.

The report adds that PSG's owners have not yet discussed the possibility of sacking Galtier, but they will consider a change in management if results do not pick up within the next couple of weeks.

Despite their status as one of the wealthiest clubs in the world and various managerial changes, PSG are yet to win their first Champions League crown, losing the 2019-20 final to Bayern under Thomas Tuchel.

Les Parisiens will need to overturn a one-goal deficit at the Allianz Arena on March 8 to keep their hopes of European silverware alive, and Galtier's stay will not be expected to last long should they suffer another elimination from the Champions League.

The report adds that Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar - PSG's owner - is still hopeful of luring Zinedine Zidane to the club as the Frenchman continues to wait for his next career move.

Zidane has been out of work since leaving Real Madrid for the second time at the end of 2021, although he has been linked with the Manchester United and France jobs since departing the Santiago Bernabeu.

Zidane was initially expected to take over the Bleus role from Didier Deschamps following the 2022 World Cup, but the French Football Federation instead handed the current coach a contract extension until the 2026 World Cup.

As a result, Zidane is available for hire, and PSG chiefs could supposedly intensify their pursuit of the 50-year-old - who was their first choice to replace Pochettino - in the coming months.

PSG are next in action at home to Galtier's former club Lille on Sunday night before travelling to Marseille for the latest instalment of Le Classique on February 26. body check tags ::
