The Scottish Football Association has confirmed that they are investigating Rangers owner Craig Whyte over his past business practices.
The businessman has admitted to the SFA that he was previously disqualified as a company director.
Whyte had initially denied the claims which were made in a BBC documentary.
The Association would be expected to take action against the 40-year-old if he does not comply with fit and proper persons guidelines.
"The Scottish FA has noted the Rangers FC statement to the stock exchange regarding the club's owner Craig Whyte," said chief executive Stewart Regan.
"We have been in dialogue with the club on this matter and in light of today's developments have requested clarification by return.
"We await disclosure of key information before we can make any further comment."
Whyte took over the Ibrox club in May 2011.
