Rangers have announced the signing of defender John Souttar on a pre-contract agreement from Hearts.

The 25-year-old Scotland international has less than six months remaining on his current contract at Tynecastle and will now make the switch to Ibrox when his deal expires on May 31.

Souttar, who has spent the last five years with Hearts, was linked with a move to England, but after holding positive talks with the Gers, the centre-back has decided to join the Scottish Premiership champions.

Sporting director Ross Wilson, said on the club's official website: "We are really looking forward to John joining Rangers and continuing his development under [Giovanni van Bronckhorst], our coaching and support staff.

"John is a full Scotland international and has so much potential ahead for the coming years. I have really enjoyed getting to know John across all of our conversations so far and I can see how excited he and his family are to be joining Rangers. We are equally excited to welcome John to Ibrox."

Souttar has made a total of 151 appearances for Hearts across all competitions, with three of his five goals for the club scored this season. body check tags ::
