Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly at risk of being expelled from the Champions League as a result of their £47m in unpaid wages dispute with their former star striker Kylian Mbappe.

The French national team captain spent seven years with the Ligue 1 champions before finally securing his dream transfer to join Real Madrid earlier this summer.

Due to his enormous release clause with Les Parisiens, Mbappe was forced to see out his contract before leaving the French capital as a free agent to join Los Blancos.

The 25-year-old attacker made a dream start to life in the Spanish capital, scoring on debut to help his new team win the UEFA Super Cup against Atalanta less than a week ago.

However, his departure from PSG this summer has not gone as smoothly as he would have hoped, and tensions between the player and his former club appear to be rising.

Mbappe demands outstanding payments from PSG

According to Le Monde, nearly two months after his contract with the French giants ended, Mbappe is still in dispute with PSG and their primary shareholder Qatar Sports Investments over alleged unpaid wages.

The French news outlet adds that Mbappe is now demanding payment of £47m, which the Ligue 1 club's management has yet to pay him as per the terms of his employment contract.

It is understood that the amount includes payment of the final three months of his PSG contract and an ethics bonus for the same period, as well as part of his signing bonus which is worth a reported £30m.

In mid-June, the player's legal team issued Les Parisiens with a formal notice, and after receiving no response, Mbappe has now chosen to escalate the matter to UEFA and the Ligue de Football Professionnel's (LFP) legal commission.

PSG dispute Mbappe's claims, asserting that he had made "commitments" to forgo the payments if he left as a free agent this summer.

However, the report claims that no agreement had been formalised between the club and the player since their representatives last met in 2023.

PSG run Champions League expulsion risk and transfer ban

Mbappe could eventually take the case to France's labour court, and as long as the matter remains unresolved, the LFP legal committee has the authority to impose a transfer ban on PSG for "failure to pay sums due."

Additionally, with the former PSG star bringing UEFA into the case, they have the power to revoke a club's license for continental competitions.

This means the Ligue 1 champions could potentially be barred from participating in the Champions League until the dispute with the player is satisfactorily resolved.

Mbappe played 308 matches for Les Parisiens and helped the team win seven Ligue 1 titles, four French Cups, two League Cups, three French Super Cups and a UEFA Super Cup. body check tags ::
