Hugo Sanchez (1985-1992)
Only Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Telmo Zarra have scored more goals in the Spanish top flight than Hugo Sanchez, and 164 of those goals came in just 207 La Liga appearances for Real Madrid.
Signed from city rivals Atletico Madrid in July 1985, Sanchez won the league title in each of his first five seasons with the club and scooped the Pichichi trophy four years in a row too - the only player in Spanish football history to have achieved that feat without sharing the award with another player.
Sanchez went on to win the top-scorer award again in 1989-90 with a haul of 38 goals from just 35 games - a joint-record alongside Zarra which stood until 2010-11 when Ronaldo netted 40 times.
That also saw Sanchez become one of only four players . - after Zarra, Alfredo Di Stefano and Quini - to win the Pichichi trophy five times, and they have since been joined in that exclusive club by Messi.
Remarkably, all 38 of Sanchez's goals that season - a tally which earned him the European Golden Boot - were scored with only a single touch.
