Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal believes that recent criticism of the Spanish national team is wide of the mark.
Spain are still the reigning European champions, but they went out in the group stages of the 2014 World Cup, which brought criticism from a number of sectors.
La Roja also lost 2-1 to Slovakia in their second Euro 2016 qualification match, but Carvajal has claimed that "people in football have very short memories".
"People in football have very short memories," Carvajal told reporters. "We need to bring new players into the system and help them to adapt to our style, so we must be objective.
"The teams we've been playing against are leaving less space for us to play in but we are trying to maintain our philosophy of the game. Other teams still respect us."
Spain face Netherlands in an international friendly on Tuesday.
