There are now just two points separating Barcelona and Real Madrid in the La Liga table following another pulsating round of matches in Spain's top flight.
Real Madrid's 3-0 win over Eibar on Saturday afternoon cut the gap to one point, before leaders Barcelona threw away a two-goal lead at in-form Sevilla to draw 2-2. As a result, there are just two points in it with seven games remaining.
Third-placed Atletico Madrid, however, could only draw 2-2 at Malaga as they fell nine points off the pace and the Spanish champions are being closely pursued by Valencia and Sevilla, who both had positive results this weekend.
Almeria, along with the top three, were also in action on Saturday and they moved out of the relegation zone with a 3-0 win over Granada, who remain second from bottom and now four points from safety. Celta Vigo, meanwhile, thumped Rayo Vallecano 6-1 to move into the top half of the table.
On Sunday, Villarreal's disappointing run continued as they drew 1-1 at Getafe, before Espanyol recorded a 1-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao. Real Sociedad were also in action on Sunday and they could only draw 2-2 at home to Deportivo La Coruna.
The big match at the bottom brought to a close the weekend's action and it was Elche that recorded all three points at Cordoba to move out of the relegation zone. The latter, however, are still nine points from safety.
Week 31's action came to a close on Monday when Valencia recorded a 3-0 win over local rivals Levante to move to within one point of third-placed Atletico and three points clear of fifth-placed Sevilla as the race for Champions League football continues to hot up.
Here, Sports Mole picks out its 11 star performers from the last round of fixtures in Spain's top flight.
Ruben (Almeria)
Almeria were much better going forward this weekend as they scored three times in Sunday's comfortable win over Granada. They were a little shaky at the back, however, and only kept a clean sheet due to the form of their goalkeeper Ruben, who managed to keep out all six of Granada's efforts on target.
Joao Cancelo (Valencia)
The on-loan Valencia defender has not had too much football this season due to the form of Jose Gaya, but an injury to the Spaniard allowed Cancelo to start Monday's clash against Levante. The 20-year-old was a constant menace in a wide area and delivered a number of telling crosses throughout the match.
Daniel Carrico (Sevilla)
Like a number of Sevilla players, Carrico was mesmerised by Barcelona's start to the clash in Seville, but the home side recovered from a shaky opening to claim a point in a 2-2 draw. Carrico was a big part of their comeback as he made a number of crucial blocks and challenges, especially in the second period.
Raphael Varane (Real Madrid)
Injuries/suspensions for Sergio Ramos and Pepe during different stages of the season has seen Varane enjoy plenty of football this term. It has been of huge benefit to the Frenchman and he continued his excellent Los Blancos form with a strong performance in Saturday's 3-0 victory over struggling Eibar.
Sofiane Feghouli (Valencia)
The Algerian was in excellent form on Monday as Valencia recorded a 3-0 win over Levante. He was a constant menace to the away side's defence and capped his impressive display with Los Che's second of the night in the first period. Levante just could not come to terms with the movement of the 25-year-old.
Ever Banega (Sevilla)
Without question one of the players of the season, Banega had a super game as Sevilla came from behind to draw with Barcelona on Saturday. The Argentine scored his side's first of the match, but it was his dominant and classy performance in the second 45 minutes that really caught the eye.
Thomas Partey (Almeria)
The on-loan Atletico Madrid midfielder has really come to the forefront for Almeria in recent games and that was again the case at the weekend. The 21-year-old scored two of his loan side's goals in their 3-0 victory, while his all-action performance in the middle of the park was a joy to behold.
Nolito (Celta Vigo)
One of three Celta players to make this XI, Nolito did not score in his side's 6-1 win over Rayo on Saturday, but he did just about everything else. The Spaniard registered three assists in total, with his movement in a wide position opening pockets in the final third. It was a selfless performance from the attacker.
Santi Mina (Celta Vigo)
Mina made history on Saturday by becoming the youngest player in La Liga history to score four goals in one game. The 19-year-old struck twice in either half as Celta absolutely ran riot against the capital outfit. It was just about the perfect evening for the teenager, who has not started many games this season.
Joaquin Larrivey (Celta Vigo)
When Celta are good, they are very good, but when they are bad, they are really poor. The same can be said for Argentine Larrivey, but it was a good weekend for the forward. He netted twice in his side's 6-1 win over Rayo and linked superbly with both Nolito and Mina in the final third of the field.
Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid)
Atletico have not quite matched their level from last season, but Griezmann has been a wonderful addition to the Spanish champions. The Frenchman struck twice in his side's 2-2 draw with Malaga on Saturday to take his total to 18 league goals for the season – two more than he managed last term.
