Former West Ham United striker Dean Ashton believes that Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho is the ideal candidate to take England to the European Championships.
The Three Lions lost 3-2 to the Netherlands at Wembley last night under temporary coach Stuart Pearce.
While Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp remains the clear favourite to nab the full-time job, Ashton thinks that Mourinho is better suited.
"England need to get someone in quickly," Ashton told talkSPORT. "When you look at the squad and what happened last night it shows that England need someone to take hold [of the squad] and bring in their own ideas.
"It would be better for the players to have someone new in. Harry Redknapp would be the obvious choice but, if I could pick anyone at all, it would be Jose Mourinho."
The former Chelsea manager was in London this week, believed to be house-hunting in the area.
