Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas has claimed that Gareth Bale has proven that he has the right mentality to be a success at the club.

The Welshman signed for a world record-breaking £85m from Tottenham Hotspur last summer and celebrated a Copa del Rey and Champions League double in his first season, with the former Spurs winger netting in both finals.

Casillas told reporters ahead of the European Super Cup meeting with Sevilla on Tuesday: "You need to be able to live with the pressure of being a Real Madrid player because you are always exposed to criticism, but Gareth has shown he can do that.

"Even if you have won the Champions League they demand even more from you. With the history of the club, if you have a season without a title it is a failure.

"At Real Madrid we have an obligation to go to the Plaza de Cibeles every year to celebrate everything we have achieved."

Meanwhile, Bale has claimed that he is in "much better shape" this pre-season than the previous year when he was out injured.
