Real Madrid full-back Marcelo has played down any links between his side's laboured 2-2 draw against Valencia and the Spanish giants' progress into the Champions League final.
Madrid had to rely on some last-gasp heroics from Cristiano Ronaldo as they earned a late draw in La Liga this evening, but Marcelo does not believe that there is any correlation between the result and his side's dedication to the Champions League in midweek.
"It had nothing to do with being tired from the Champions League," said Marcelo, according to Goal.com.
"We have given everything but we couldn't win, but at least we drew. We don't look at the matches of other teams. Now we have to win ours anyway. Today we had to win and we couldn't.
"The league is a very tough tournament. Everything can change at any time. We had an opportunity to close the gap but we've failed."
Madrid currently hold third position in the Primera Division table.
