Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo is delighted with his side's triumph in the Spanish Super Cup on Wednesday.
The defending Spanish champions defeated Barcelona 2-1 at home in the second leg to level the tie 4-4 and win it on the away goals rule.
"We started well and we scored two quick goals that gave us confidence and we played well and we created many chances," said Ronaldo. "In the second half we slowed the tempo because we were tired but we deserved to win.
"It was an important match, not just because of the Super Cup, but also to beat Barcelona and to feel as though we have regained our level of performance.
"Last year they won the Super Cup and we won the Liga but this doesn't have much relevance on the season."
Madrid are back in La Liga action on Sunday when they host Granada at the Santiago Bernabeu.
