James Rodriguez and Raul Garcia were both on the scoresheet this evening as Real Madrid drew 1-1 with Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup at the Bernabeu.

Rodriguez opened his Madrid account after 81 minutes, but Garcia levelled seven minutes later to leave the two teams all square ahead of the second leg at the Vicente Calderon on Friday.

Here, Sports Mole takes a look at who impressed during the all-Madrid affair.

REAL MADRID

Goal

Iker Casillas: Made some smart saves from Saul Niguez and Mario Mandzukic in the second period and was also calm and confident from crosses. Much more like it from the Spanish goalkeeper. (7/10)

Defence

Dani Carvajal: Proved a serious attacking threat, especially in the second period, and played his part in James's goal. Has emerged into a fine full-back over the last couple of seasons. (7/10)

Pepe: Unusually straightforward evening for the Portuguese, who kept himself out of trouble. Was rarely tested in behind and was calm and confident in possession of the ball. (6/10)

Sergio Ramos: Had an ongoing battle with Mandzukic for much of the contest and was perhaps lucky to remain on the field after appearing to slap the Croatian during one of their many altercations. (6/10)

Marcelo: Did not really feature as an attacking threat until the latter stages, but was solid defensively. Will face serious competition from Fabio Coentrao for the left-back role this season. (6/10)

Midfield

Toni Kroos: Was guilty of missing a golden chance in the second period, but ran the show from the middle of the park. Equally effective as the holder or the most advanced midfielder. Top-drawer performance. (9/10)

Xabi Alonso: Has a battle on his hands to make the starting XI this season and while his passing was tidy, the Spaniard was guilty of some rash challenges throughout the contest. (6/10)

Luka Modric: Croatian was not as involved as previous matches, but still kept things ticking over. Showed signs of tiredness in the second period and was replaced after 78 minutes. (7/10)

Attack

Gareth Bale: Another that had a quiet evening. Started from the right but struggled to gain any change from Atletico's watertight defence. That said, Welshman was always a threat in the final third. (6/10)

Karim Benzema: Played his part in James's goal late on, but that was his only real involvement. Looked off the pace and struggled to win his battles against Miranda and Diego Godin. (6/10)

Cristiano Ronaldo: Extremely quiet first 45 minutes for the Portuguese aside from a towering header late in the half. Departed at the interval with a reported back complaint. (5/10)

Substitutes

James Rodriguez: Replaced Ronaldo at the interval and certainly added a new dimension to the attack. Still working his way to full fitness, but grabbed his first Madrid goal late on. (7/10)

Angel di Maria: Continues to be linked with both Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain, but played the final 10 minutes at the Bernabeu tonight. Looked bright and inventive in the final third. (6/10)

ATLETICO MADRID

Goal

Miguel Moya: Given the gloves ahead of Jan Oblak and justified his selection with a confident display. Might have done better with a late Bale free kick, but hardly put a foot, or hand wrong. (7/10)

Defence

Juanfran: Shackled Ronaldo in the first period, before matching Bale and Benzema in the second. There are now few better right-backs in European football than the Spaniard. (7/10)

Miranda: Another dominant performance from the Brazilian, who was aerially superb and calm on the ball. Hardly gave the Madrid attackers a kick. (7/10)

Diego Godin: Has been linked with Bayern Munich in recent days, but looked unmoved by the speculation. As defensively sound as he was all last season. (7/10)

Guilherme Siqueira: Perhaps lucky to remain on the field following two poor challenges on Bale and was substituted late on. That aside, it was a tidy showing from the new left-back. (6/10)

Midfield

Gabi: As usual, the skipper kept things ticking over in the middle of the park. Was not really involved in the final third, but played his normal intelligent game. (7/10)

Mario Suarez: Introduced into the Atletico XI to provide steel and a physical presence and that was indeed the case. Got about the pitch with his relentless energy. (6/10)

Koke: Atletico's best summer business has been starving off interest in Koke, who was once more brilliant this evening. The Spaniard is simply the complete midfielder. (7/10)

Attack

Raul Garcia: Came as no surprise when Garcia popped up with his side's equaliser late on. Always in the right place and contributes in all areas of the park. (7/10)

Mario Mandzukic: As mentioned, had a long-running feud with Ramos, but was the perfect physical presence in attack. Had little serious service, but demonstrated his strong hold-up play throughout the contest. (7/10)

Saul Niguez: Was guilty of missing a golden chance in the first period, but went about his work well on what was a surprise start. Always positive and always willing to take the ball. (6/10)

Substitutes

Antoine Griezmann: Summer signing from Real Sociedad entered with 30 minutes remaining and added a new dimension to the Atletico attack. That said, is still working his way back to full fitness. (6/10)

Cristian Ansaldi: Replaced Siqueira after 64 minutes and slotted effortlessly into the back four. Could prove to be an astute signing for the La Liga champions. (6/10)

Raul Jimenez: Looked bright on his debut after replacing Mandzukic late on, but had little service as Real Madrid dominated the ball in the final 10 minutes. (6/10)
