First-half goals from James Rodriguez and Jese Rodriguez helped Real Madrid beat Sevilla 2-1 in La Liga on Wednesday.

Iago Aspas had one back for Sevilla late on, but the visitors could not find an equaliser at the Bernabeu.

The result has moved Real Madrid four points clear at the top of the table. Sevilla, meanwhile, remain fourth - one point clear of fifth-placed Valencia in the race for Champions League football.

REAL MADRID

Goal

Iker Casillas: Made a couple of vital saves in the first period and in truth, could not do too much with Sevilla's goal. Hasn't really put a foot wrong for some time now. (6/10)

Defence

Alvaro Arbeloa: Decent enough replacement for Dani Carvajal, but never offers the same threat going forward. Filled in well, but it was an average evening for the Spaniard. (6/10)

Sergio Ramos: Lasted just nine minutes after over-stretching. Now looks to be a serious doubt for the trip to the Spanish champions Atletico Madrid at the weekend. (5/10)

Raphael Varane: Got caught out of position on a couple of occasions in the first period, but settled as the match wore on. Has such power and pace. (6/10)

Marcelo: As usual, the Brazilian was a threat in the final third, but he made a poor challenge in the second period - picking up a booking which rules him out of the Atletico clash. (6/10)

Midfield

Toni Kroos: Nice and tidy from the German, who kept things ticking over in the middle of the park. Also came close to scoring with a clever free kick in the second period. (6/10)

Isco: Always looked a threat from a deeper position. Could not register despite a couple of good chances, but was the one player that remained dangerous throughout the match. (7/10)

Sami Khedira: Given a rare start in midfield and the World Cup winner had a steady night. Still looks likely to leave the Bernabeu on a free transfer at the end of the season. (6/10)

Attack

Gareth Bale: Had a number of bright moments, but it did not really happen for the Welshman in front of goal. Missed a couple of good chances in the second period. (6/10)

Karim Benzema: Entered the match off the back of a brace against Real Sociedad, but the Frenchman did not have a similar impact here. Missed an excellent chance to make it 3-0 in the first period. (6/10)

James Rodriguez: Opened the scoring with a clever header, but the Colombian was forced off with an injury in the 27th minute. Also seen as a doubt for the clash with Atletico on Sunday. (6/10)

Substitutes

Nacho: Replaced Ramos nine minutes in and the Spaniard did well to pick up the pace of the match. Had a few nervy moments, but settled as the match gathered pace. (6/10)

Jese Rodriguez: Scored his first league goal of the season after replacing James in the first half. Remained a threat throughout the match in the Spanish capital. (7/10)

Asier Illarramendi: Only given the final 60 seconds. (5/10)

SEVILLA

Goal

Beto: Made a couple of good saves in the opening 30 minutes, but was forced off on a stretcher 10 minutes before the interval following a heavy clash with Real Madrid's Benzema. (6/10)

Defence

Diogo Figueiras: Picked up the first booking of the match for a really poor challenge on Bale and was not the same player thereafter. Did not really want to commit to any more tackles. (6/10)

Daniel Carrico: Made some good blocks, especially in the second period, and also came close to scoring. However, was caught out of position during Real Madrid's spell of first-half pressure. (6/10)

Timothee Kolodziejczak: Was caught out of position for both of Real Madrid's goals. Looked decent enough in possession of the ball, but struggled in the first 45 minutes. (5/10)

Fernando Navarro: Another that was extremely fortunate to remain on the field. Picked up a booking in the first period, but still made at least two late challenges in the second half. (5/10)

Midfield

Vicente Iborra: Had his side's best three chances, but brought a save from Casillas, before hitting the post and then firing wide. Dangerous, but could not make it count where it mattered most. (6/10)

Stephane Mbia: Did his best to crowd the Real Madrid midfield, but needed a little bit more from those around him. Looked leggy on his first start since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations. (6/10)

Grzegorz Krychowiak: Has caught the eye this season with some excellent performances, but this was not one of his best. Played some nice passes, but did not really influence the match. (6/10)

Attack

Vitolo: One of Sevilla's brightest players in the first period and he might have opened the scoring with a couple of attempts. Set up Aspas late on though and was one of his side's better players on the night. (7/10)

Carlos Bacca: Has not had too many problems scoring goals this season, but the Colombian was disappointing here. Had decent service, but could not impact the match. (5/10)

Gerard Deulofeu: Really struggled at the Bernabeu. Has been in good form in recent weeks, but it just never happened for the Spaniard. Was replaced by Aleix Vidal early in the second period. (5/10)

Substitutes

Sergio Rico: Conceded barely one minute after replacing Beto, but recovered to produce a number of smart saves. Can be pleased with his own performance at the Bernabeu. (6/10)

Aleix Vidal: Replaced Deulofeu after 54 minutes, but did not have much of an impact. (5/10)

Iago Aspas: Immediately looked a threat after joining the match for the final 25 minutes. Showed excellent composure late on to net his 10th goal of the season. (7/10)
