Jose Mourinho's side were frustrated for much of the first half, and failed to create any decent openings.
The introductions of Kaka and Angel Di Maria gave Madrid a more dangerous presence up front after the break, but they were unable to breach a determined Racing defence in a game where both teams managed only one shot on target.
The result leaves Madrid with seven points from their opening four games.
