Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti reportedly made contact with David Luiz over the summer and had wanted to bring the experienced centre-back to the Bernabeu.

The 34-year-old had been available on a free transfer this summer, having seen his contract with Arsenal expire at the end of June.

Earlier this month, it was announced that the Brazilian had signed a 15-month contract with Flamengo, returning to his home country after almost 15 years in Europe.

According to Globo, Ancelotti made contact with Luiz to express an interest, but Los Blancos did not place a contract on the table for the defender.

Real Madrid allowed long-serving captain Sergio Ramos to leave this summer, while Raphael Varane moved to Manchester United.

David Alaba arrived at the Bernabeu on a free transfer over the summer, but the La Liga giants are said to be determined to bring another centre-back to the club in 2022.
