Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal has revealed that he has not yet been approached by the club to discuss a new contract despite the fact that his current deal only has little over 12 months left to run.

The 32-year-old has been in impressive form for Los Blancos during the 2023-24 campaign, making 31 appearances in all competitions, contributing five goals and four assists in the process.

Carvajal's agreement at Bernabeu is due to expire in June 2025, though, meaning that he will be free to hold talks with foreign clubs over a pre-contract if he does not pen a new deal before January 2025.

The Spain international has expressed a strong desire to continue at Real Madrid but has revealed that there have not yet been any discussions over an extension.

"At the moment we have not sat down to talk, it's really easy with me. If you want to renew me, I am the first one who wants to extend the contract with the club," he told COPE.

Carvajal has been with Real Madrid since 2002, progressing through the various age groups at the club before making his debut for Real Madrid B in 2010.

The right-back joined Bayer Leverkusen in July 2012, but he only spent one season with the German outfit, as Real Madrid exercised a buy-back option to re-sign him for the 2013-14 campaign.

Carvajal has made 406 appearances for Real Madrid in all competitions, winning three La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey trophies, four Spanish Super Cups, five Champions Leagues, four UEFA Super Cups and five Club World Cups during a highly-successful career.

"We have only lost one La Liga match, we are in the Champions League quarter-finals, it was a shame about Copa del Rey but we won the Super Cup. On the way back from the break we have a pretty key match against Athletic," the defender added when asked about Real Madrid's campaign.

"With nine games left, it's eight points of advantage, we receive Barcelona in our stadiums... we want to win that game and extend the lead."

Carvajal was also asked about Kylian Mbappe potentially arriving at Bernabeu, with the France international widely expected to move to Real Madrid on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

"They haven't told us anything. It seems that it is a possibility that he can come. In Madrid, the best have to come and he is one of the best. For the league and our football, it would be good, just like [Robert] Lewandowski has gone to Barcelona," he added.

"No jealousy [if Mbappe arrives at the club], but the people who have been in the club for the longest time are in charge of everyone rowing in the same direction; that when one derails a little, grab him by the ear and put him on the track of our train."

Carvajal is currently with the Spain squad preparing for friendlies against Colombia and Brazil. body check tags ::
