Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has revealed that Real Madrid made an offer for him at one time, but his club turned it down.
The Germany international, who has struggled with injury in recent times, also admitted that he would consider playing in England in the future.
The 24-year-old is quoted by Marca as saying: "Real Madrid made an offer for me but my club rejected it. At that time I still had two more seasons left on my contract. But also, my injury wrecked it all. I wasn't able to play for 14 months.
"Now I want to look towards the future and make up for lost time with sporting success. Playing abroad has always been one of my main objectives. If I do leave here one day, I'd like to play in Spain or England."
Dortmund are currently struggling near the foot of the Bundesliga.
