New Monaco signing Geoffrey Kondogbia has revealed that a move to Real Madrid would have been a risk.
The French midfielder was linked with Madrid, before moving to France from Sevilla.
He reveals that a deal could not be agreed with Madrid and admits that he might not have played enough in the Spanish capital.
"When [a move to Madrid] was mentioned, the conditions of the transfer were not met," Kondogbia told L'Equipe.
"Afterwards I spoke with some people who know football very well, and they told me it would be a risk to move [to Madrid].
"There was a risk I wouldn't play much there, that's obvious, but it's not only that. I'm super happy to come back to France."
The 20-year-old reportedly has a release clause in his contract that can only be activated by Madrid.
