Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has made it clear that he wants to sign a new deal at Bernabeu.
The 37-year-old has again been a vital player for Los Blancos during the 2022-23 campaign, featuring on 37 occasions in all competitions, contributing six goals and five assists in the process.
Modric only has a deal with Real Madrid until the end of June, though, and as it stands, he will be leaving the reigning Spanish and European champions on a free transfer.
There is believed to be Saudi Arabian interest in the experienced midfielder, while a number of MLS clubs are thought to be keeping a close eye on his situation.
However, Modric is determined to sign another contract with Carlo Ancelotti's side.
The experienced midfielder is currently with the Croatia squad preparing for their Euro 2024 qualification matches against Wales and Turkey, and he was asked about his situation during a press conference with the national side.
"My wish is known, to stay at Real Madrid. I believe and hope it will happen. The rest are only assumptions and rumours. I repeat for the 100th time, I hope and believe I will stay at Real Madrid," Modric told reporters.
There have also been suggestions that Real Madrid want Modric to retire from international duty in order to prolong his club career, but the midfielder insisted that is not the case.
"Short and clear, no," he said when asked about the rumour.
Modric made the move to Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in August 2012, and he has represented the Spanish giants on 473 occasions, scoring 37 goals and registering 76 assists in the process.
The midfielder has won three La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey and five Champions League crowns during a glittering period in the Spanish capital.
Modric has featured on 24 occasions in La Liga this season, scoring four goals and registering three assists, while he has two goals and one assist in six Champions League outings.
As well as Modric, Karim Benzema, Marco Asensio, Toni Kroos, Dani Ceballos, Nacho and Mariano Diaz only have contracts with Ancelotti's side until the end of June. body check tags ::
