Marco Asensio confirms that he is eager to extend his stay at Real Madrid, despite spending much of the season out of the starting lineup.

Marco Asensio has revealed that he would ideally like to remain at Real Madrid for the next decade.

The midfielder has spent much of his professional career representing Los Blancos, making a total of 250 appearances in all competitions.

However, the 26-year-old has only been regarded as backup under Carlo Ancelotti, particularly this campaign where he has made just three starts in La Liga and the Champions League.

Nevertheless, those three starts came in the weeks before the World Cup break, Asensio providing a goal and two assists during that triple-header.

Despite another 12 appearances being made from the substitutes' bench, reports have indicated that a renewal of his contract is far more likely than it was claimed several months ago.

Speaking to Marca Radio, Asensio has acknowledged that he is open to spending the remainder of his career at the Bernabeu if an agreement can be reached.

The playmaker said: "There is talk that I am changing Real Madrid's mind. But I have always tried to give the best that I have inside and then it will be known.

"The one who decides, too, is the club, it does not only depend on me. After the World Cup, we'll both make a decision.

"What if I want to renew? Hopefully it can happen and I'll be very happy at Real Madrid for many years, hopefully everything will be given to stay for 10 more years."

Asensio currently has just over seven months remaining on his contract and no further negotiations are likely to take place until he has returned to Spain after representing his national team at the World Cup.

The creator was handed a start in Spain's starting lineup for their opening fixture against Costa Rica on Wednesday, Asensio netting during the 7-0 victory.

Despite his irregular outings for his club, Asensio has remained in the La Roja fold and has now earned 32 caps for his country.

Asensio will be hoping that he retains his spot for the meeting with Germany on Sunday, his country having an opportunity to eliminate the 2014 world champions from the tournament. body check tags ::
