Former Paris Saint-Germain player Jerome Rothen has claimed that Kylian Mbappe was closing in on a switch to Real Madrid before the coronavirus pandemic.
With just over two years remaining on his contract, Mbappe has been strongly linked with Real Madrid for some time, leading to speculation over a transfer later in 2020.
While PSG sporting director Leonardo has frequently insisted that the World Cup winner will remain at the Parc des Princes, Rothen says that the forward was on the brink of a move to the Bernabeu.
Speaking to Radio Montecarlo, the ex-winger said: "I know from sources that Mbappe almost signed for Real Madrid. With what is happening now, it is certain that Mbappe's arrival at Real will be postponed.
"In no case will there be an extension of Mbappe's contract with PSG."
Given the financial implications of coronavirus, PSG may have to reconsider their valuation of Mbappe, said to be in the region of £200m.
