Los Blancos have already strengthened their midfield this summer after completing the signing of Aurelien Tchouameni from Monaco.
Despite Tchouameni joining on a six-year deal, Real Madrid are reportedly looking to strengthen the midfield further by targeting Barella.
According to Calciomercato, Los Blancos are prepared to offer Dani Ceballos and Nacho Fernandez in any potential deal for the Italy midfielder.
However, Inter are believed to be keen to retain the services of Barella, whose current contract runs until 2026.
The 25-year-old made 48 appearances for Simone Inzaghi's side last season, helping his team lift the Coppa Italia trophy after scoring in the final against Juventus.
