Ola Toivonen grabbed an 80th-minute winner as Rennes ultimately beat 10-man Guingamp at Stade de la Route de Lorient this evening.
Sambou Yatabare's red card on 75 minutes gave the hosts all the impetus necessary to clinch three points, and Toivonen popped up shortly after to snatch the victory.
It was Guingamp who first threatened, with Jeremy Pied blazing narrowly over the bar after the ball dropped to him from a corner on 10 minutes.
It took some 23 minutes before Rennes came into the game, and it was nearly worth the wait as Cheikh M'Bengue took aim from outside the box and drilled narrowly wide.
Both sides went close before the break, with Lionel Mathis seeing his effort denied by Benoit Costil on 32 minutes, before Jonas Lossi kept out Paul-Georges Ntep at the other end to preserve parity at the interval.
Guingamp had looked dangerous at times throughout the second half, but Yatabare's red card curtailed their progress and Toivonen struck five minutes later to seal the win.
