Montpellier HSC have moved into eighth spot in the Ligue 1 table after four different goalscorers gave them a comfortable 4-0 victory away at Rennes this evening.
Jonas Martin, Morgan Sanson, Lucas Barrios and Anthony Mounier were all on the scoresheet as won on the road for just the second time this season.
Rennes missed a great chance to go ahead in the first four minutes of the contest as Paul-Georges Ntep swung in a corner that was met by Habib Habibou, but his header from the six-yard box flew over the bar.
Montpellier looked to hit back with an attack of their own as Jamel Saihi drilled in from distance to force a good stop from Rennes goalkeeper Benoit Costil, who made good ground to make the save.
The visitors built on that effort with an opening goal in the 23rd minute, which came via Martin, who simply had to tap in when he was squared the ball by an inventive Barrios.
Holding a one-goal lead meant that the visitors could play on the counter, and they made use of that tactic early on in the second half.
Mounier broke away at great pace before laying it off to Sanson, who finished into the bottom right corner to make it 2-0.
The away side cemented all three points in the 60th minute thanks to Barrios, who could not miss from the left side of the box, while Mounier added the icing on the cake with another in injury time.
