Giovanni Trapattoni has described the latest allegations of match-fixing and corruption in Italian football as disappointing and humiliating.
The 73-year-old Republic of Ireland manager, who has a legendary status in his homeland because of his achievements with Juventus and AC Milan, is concerned about the current integrity of Serie A football.
"Every moment, we have in Italy a surprise," he said. "Obviously, we are not only sad, but we are also disappointed, very, very much because Italian football is not only this.
"We have had it in the past and also now. We don't have a good reputation and it's important that we clean up this situation because we can't accept every two or three years this disappointment and humiliation for Italian football."
Trapattoni is currently in Tuscany with his Ireland squad, preparing for Euro 2012.
