Genoa have moved into the top half of the Serie A table by beating struggling Livorno 1-0 at the Armando Picchi.
The visitors took the lead in the 10th minute of the match when Alberto Gilardino saw his close-range shot saved by Francesco Bardi, and Luca Antonelli arrived to slot the ball into the empty net.
Andrea Luci wasted a rare chance for Livorno in the first half as he fired an attempt over the bar.
Marco Benassi then forced Mattia Perin into a save, before Innocent Emeghara had a goal-bound effort well blocked by Giovanni Marchese.
Perin was called into action again after the break to keep out strikes from Benassi and Djamel Mesbah.
In stoppage time Livorno thought that they had found an equaliser through Paulinho, but his header was cleared off the line by Daniele Portanova, and Genoa held on to the win.
