Alex Revell has given Rotherham United a 1-0 lead over Preston North End at half time in the first leg of their League One playoff semi-final.
Preston made a good start to the game at Deepdale, but their optimistic calls for a penalty appeal after Joe Garner had gone down inside the opening minute were quickly dismissed.
Rotherham broke the deadlock in the 20th minute when Revell latched onto a long ball before racing clear of the Preston defence and slotting the ball past Declan Rudd.
The visitors continued to look a threat when they did get forward, but a lack of quality in the final third prevented them from extending their lead further.
Garner attempted to level the scores in emphatic style from outside the box with a speculative effort, which was easily collected by Adam Collin.
Despite Garner continuing to cause problems for the Rotherham defence when he was given the opportunity, a lack of chances allowed Rotherham to retain their lead heading into the break.
