Saint-Etienne coach Christophe Galtier has admitted that his side's goalless draw with Valenciennes away from home in Ligue 1 was "a fair result".
However, Galtier believes that his players could have taken advantage of the "few favourable situations" they had in the encounter at Stade Nungesser on Friday.
"The draw is a fair result," he told reporters. "We have a few regrets over what happened in the first half. Without having many chances we did have a few favourable situations which we didn't make the most of.
"In the second half I sensed my team wanted to defend and protect our goal. We didn't have as much pace in our attacks and Valenciennes picked things up.
"Subconsciously the Coupe de la Ligue final was in our heads. Given the context, this was a good point."
Saint-Etienne are currently third in Ligue 1 with 54 points from 32 matches.
