Francisco Caiuby scored a stoppage-time winner as Augsburg pulled away from the relegation zone with a 2-1 win over Schalke 04 this afternoon.
It was the hosts who enjoyed more of the possession for much of the first half, but with chances difficult to come by, Koo Ja-Cheol wasted an opening by shooting straight at Ralf Fahrmann from the edge of the box.
Schalke improved before conceding the opener when a corner was cleared to Dominik Kohr, whose low strike hit Hong Jeong-Ho on the way to finding the back of the net.
Caiuby threatened to double the lead before the break, but he could only curl an effort into the arms of Fahrmann after evading a couple of challenges.
As Schalke continued to be restricted to long-range strikes early in the second half, the hosts were close to scoring a second when Philipp Max curled a free kick over the crossbar.
The equaliser arrived with 20 minutes remaining when Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting burst into the box before finding Sead Kolasinac, whose first touch allowed him to volley home from close range.
Schalke were punished for losing focus in stoppage time as Caiuby battled into space before finding the roof of the net with an emphatic finish to clinch the points.
