Schalke 04 have beaten Freiburg 2-0 in their Bundesliga match this afternoon.
The away side started strongly, pinning Schalke into their own half. However, they failed to make their dominance pay and the first 10 minutes went by without a decent chance.
Admir Mehmedi saw an ambitious effort fly over from 25 yards and Adam Szalai had a half-chance for the hosts, but he could only direct his shot wide under pressure from Immanuel Hohn.
Szalai then directed a decent chance over the bar, and Felipe Santana could have put the hosts ahead, but a combination of the defence and Oliver Baumann kept him out.
However, the goal did come just before half time. Jefferson Farfan's corner went across the six-yard box and deflected in off Nicolas Hofler's knee.
Szalai almost made it 2-0 after the break, but he was unable to reach a cross.
Freiburg battled back and saw Matthias Ginter's header drift over the bar, but Felix Klaus was then adjudged to have brought down Maximilian Meyer in the box. Farfan stepped up and put the ball in.
Meyer came close to Schalke's third of the afternoon, flicking the ball up with his back to goal before almost catching Baumann out with an overhead kick.
Mike Hanke had a header saved, but it was too little too late for Freiburg.
