Schalke 04 have confirmed that they are interested in signing Inter Milan forward Xherdan Shaqiri.
The Switzerland international has recently been linked with a move away from San Siro, despite joining Inter just six months ago from Bayern Munich.
Schalke sporting director Horst Heldt has now revealed that the club are keen on bringing the 23-year-old back to the Bundesliga this summer.
"This player is on the market," Heldt told Bild. "He has exceptional quality. A club like Schalke 04 has to then look into such a player and to explore whether this transfer can be realised. Xherdan could help us so we're obliged to check out the details."
Stoke City boss Mark Hughes recently admitted that the Premier League club was unlikely to sign Shaqiri, even though a £12m fee for the player had been agreed with Inter.
