Russell Martin: Scotland 'capable of result' against Germany

Scotland defender Russell Martin insists that his team can get a result against Germany, despite the damaging defeat to Georgia.

Gordon Strachan's side lost 1-0 in Tbilisi on Friday, a defeat which saw them slip to fourth in Group D behind Republic of Ireland, Poland and the group leaders.

Defeat to Germany could effectively end Scotland's chances of automatic qualification for Euro 2016 if other results go against them, but Martin is confident that the nation can rise to the occasion against the world champions on Monday.

"Any game at home the atmosphere will be great," the Norwich City captain told PA. "This is one that we are all looking forward to regardless of Friday night's result.

"We will go and have a go. We are more than capable of getting a result, we nearly got one over there [in Germany]. We have set such high standards for ourselves over the last 18 months or so, and this is our first setback really since the manager has been in, and now we have to handle that.

"We have to move on quickly. There are nine points to play for. We want all nine and we need to get as many as we can to make sure we are in the mix for France. It is as simple as that. If we get a result [on Monday], the world will seem OK again."

Scotland's rivals for second place in Group B - Poland and Republic of Ireland - also face home ties on Monday, against Gibraltar and Georgia respectively.
