The African Nations Cup qualifier between Senegal and Ivory Coast is abandoned with 15 minutes to play after a riot erupts in the stadium.

Ivory Coast have had their African Nations Cup qualifier against Senegal abandoned after fans rioted inside the stadium in Dakar.

Didier Drogba had just converted a penalty to give his side a 2-0 lead when a fan attempted to invade the pitch.

Drogba's goal caused outrage in the stands, with Senegalese fans starting fires and hurling missiles onto the pitch as widespread chaos ensued.

Ivorian fans were forced to seek refuge on the pitch as police let off tear gas to curb the trouble.

Authorities were given no choice but to abandon the match with 15 minutes to play, with the Ivory Coast leading 6-2 on aggregate.

A host of Premier League players were on the field during the disturbances, including Gervinho, Yaya Toure, Kolo Toure, Chieck Tiote, Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba.

Players escaped unharmed after being escorted from the field by police holding riot shields.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is yet to make a statement on the incident or its course of action.
