Sports Mole sorts the heroes from the villains in Shakhtar Donetsk's 1-0 home defeat to Athletic Bilbao in the Champions League.

Mikel San Jose scored the only goal of the game as Athletic Bilbao beat Shakhtar Donetsk 1-0 in what proved a smash-and-grab Champions League win in Ukraine.

The defender flicked home the winner on 68 minutes to give Bilbao - who are already eliminated - their first win in Group E this season against a wasteful Shakhtar side in Lviv.

Here, Sports Mole sorts the heroes from the villains in a feisty clash in Lviv.

SHAKHTAR DONETSK

Goal

Andriy Pyatov: Helpless for the goal, but Pyatov looked as if he wanted Bilbao to score at times by making a host of bizarre and risky decisions that jeopardised his team massively. (4/10)

Defence

Darijo Srna: Got forward well on plenty occassions, finding lots of space but not once did his teammates' play him in. Did okay defensively to keep the dangerous Muniain relatively quiet throughout. (6/10)

Oleksandr Kucher: Not one of his best games but did succeed in helping centre-half partner Rakitskiy keep Viguera quiet. Still, Kucher is likely to find himself with a lot of chances when Ivan Ordets returns from a broken toe. (5/10)

Yaroslav Rakitskiy: Like Kucher, manage to effectively combat Viguera but also should have scored with a header that just missed the target in the second half. (5/10)

Vyacheslav Shevchuk: The left-back made plenty of excellent crossing opportunities for himself, but the veteran's delivery invariably let him down throughout. (5/10)

Midfield

Taras Stepanenko: Could have done more to combat Bilbao's midfielders but was by no means Shakhtar's worst player on the night. That honour is reserved for one of the Brazilians. (6/10)

Fernando: The combative midfielder sat in front of his defence well and blasted anything that came his way, but he did not link the defence to attack well at all and misplaced a host of passes. (5/10)

Douglas Costa: His decision making cost him and Shakhtar a few times. On one occasion, he showed terrific pace to surge through Bilbao's midfield but then dragged a shot horribly wide. Should have passed. (5/10)

Alex Teixeira: Missed the best chance of the game after five minutes by fluffing his lines in a one-on-one with Iraizoz. Costly miss. (4/10)

Attack

Taison: Another Brazilian perhaps slightly guilty of poor decision making, but did play in Teixeira for that early chance. (5/10)

Luiz Adriano: Did not look like a player that had scored eight in his last two Champions League games. Had one or two chances, but failed to convert them in a performance that suggested his goalscoring heroics against Bate was more of a reflection on them than him. (4/10)

Substitutes

Marlos: Used the ball better than Costa - who he replaced - but still left a bit to be desired in the final third. (5/10)

Bernard: Arguably Shakhtar's biggest name on the substitutes' bench, but the Brazilian did little to prove Lucescu wrong for not starting him. (4/10)

ATHLETIC BILBAO

Goal

Gorka Iraizoz: Very little to criticise him over and made a smart, albeit comfortable, save early on to thwart Teixera. (6/10)

Defence

Oscar De Marcos: Continues to impress in a still unfamiliar right-back position and helped keep Taison quiet on Shakhtar's left midfield. (6/10)

Xabier Etxeita: Forced off injured on the half-hour mark, but was lucky not to concede an early goal after finding him flat-footed for an early Teixeira chance. (4/10)

Mikel San Jose: Proved the match-winner by eventually finding the net, having regularly threatened in the first half. Lucescu should have addressed his threat. (7/10)

Mikel Balenziaga: Was guilty of losing Costa on one occasion during the first half, but Balenziaga ensured that the Brazilian had further chances. Good performance from the left-back. (6/10)

Midfield

Mikel Rico: Used position very well in midfield and can take a lot of pride from his performance in the win. Job well done for Rico. (7/10)

Gorka Iturraspe: Slightly lucky to stay on the field after being booked for a challenge on Costa, before then taking Adriano down later in the second half. (4/10)

Benat: Swung in some beautiful crosses from set pieces and bagged the assist for the all-important winning goal. (7/10)

Attack

Iker Muniain: Arguably Bilbao's biggest name on the team sheet, but the Spaniard never showed up tonight. The Champions League continues to look a step too far for him. (4/10)

Markel Susaeta: Perhaps could have done more to help Viguera from his number 10 role. Subbed on 65 minutes for Aduriz. (4/10)

Borja Viguera: Totally anonymous as Bilbao's spearhead. He started ahead of the "injured" Aduriz - who later came on - but Viguera offered little to nothing to suggest that he can displace the veteran striker in the long term. (3/10)

Substitutes

Carlos Gurpegi: Forced into the action on 30 minutes and proved a big factor in Bilbao earning a clean sheet. Good performance from the veteran centre-half. (7/10)

Aritz Aduriz: Intentionally left out of the first XI by Ernestro Valverde, but the veteran striker had a big impact upon arriving and helped breathe fresh life into a dying Bilbao front line. (6/10)

Unai Lopez: Only had a two-minute cameo. (5/10)
