Sheffield United are reportedly interested in signing Bournemouth defender Chris Mepham this month.

The 26-year-old has failed to be a regular starter for the Cherries this term, making only eight appearances, with just two of those being starts in the Premier League.

Since joining from Thomas Frank's Brentford in January 2019 for £12m, Mepham has gone on to feature 116 times for the South-coast club, scoring twice.

The centre-back continues to be a key fixture in Rob Page's Wales squad and will be hoping to help his country reach this summer's Euro 2024 in Germany.

According to The Sun, top-flight strugglers Sheffield United are eyeing up a move for Mepham during this month's transfer window.

The report claims that new Blades manager Chris Wilder has taken a fancy to the Welshman as the Yorkshire club look to avoid an immediate return to the Championship.

United are currently rooted to the bottom of the Premier League standings after 20 matches, eight points away from 17th-placed Everton with a game in hand.

It is understood that Bournemouth would be willing to end their five-year association with Mepham should the price be right, considering that he is not a stalwart in Andoni Iraola's side.

The Blades are in the market for a new centre-back with speculation beginning to grow around the future of 24-year-old Anel Ahmedhodzic, who could leave Bramall Lane in January.

Ahmedhodzic has reportedly attracted the interest of potential buyers this month despite his team's defensive record, with Wilder's men conceding 49 goals in 20 top-flight matches.

The report also states that Sheffield United have been in contact with Ligue 1 outfit Strasbourg over the potential signing of defender Gerzino Nyamsi.

It is believed that any suitors for the 26-year-old would have to fork out around £6m for his services, with Burnley and Fulham also said to be keen on the player.

Strasbourg are said to be mulling over whether to let Nyamsi leave on loan this month, as they worry that a Premier League relegation on his CV would significantly damage his market value for a future sale.

Over two weeks on from a 4-0 success at Gillingham in the FA Cup, Sheffield United will return to top-flight action when they welcome West Ham United to Bramall Lane on Sunday. body check tags ::
