Sheffield United and Luton Town are reportedly interested in signing Lyngby Boldklub goalkeeper Mads Kikkenborg during the January transfer window.

The 24-year-old helped his side remain in the top tier of Danish football on goal difference last season, and has made 17 appearances in the Superligaen in 2023-24, keeping three clean sheets.

Kikkenborg joined Lyngby from second-tier outfit Esbjerg in the summer of 2021 and has established himself as first-choice stopper at Lyngby Stadion, earning 51 starts.

The keeper also possesses some international pedigree, having formed part of Denmark's youth teams in the past, however he is yet to receive a call-up for the senior side.

According to Danish outlet Tipsbladet, two Premier League clubs are monitoring the progress of Lyngby's Kikkenborg ahead of the January transfer window.

The report claims that top-flight newcomers Sheffield United and Luton are both keen on the young keeper, who is said to have improved dramatically since moving clubs two years ago.

It is understood that members of the Hatters' scouting team have flown over to Denmark to watch the shot-stopper at Lyngby Stadion on several occasions in the opening months of this season.

Although no official approaches have been made for the 24-year-old at this stage, it is believed that both Luton and the Blades will table bids for the player in the New Year.

Kikkenborg put pen to paper on improved terms at the Superligaen club in the summer, meaning that he is now contracted to Lyngby until the conclusion of the 2025-26 term.

Sheffield United are currently in the process of working out a contract extension for first-choice keeper Wes Foderingham, who sees his deal at Bramall Lane expire at the end of this campaign.

The 32-year-old has been given the fruitless task of being in between the sticks for the Blades this season, with the Yorkshire club conceding 39 goals in their opening 14 Premier League matches.

Following the sobering 5-0 loss at relegation rivals Burnley on Saturday, Chris Wilder has returned to United as head coach at the expense of Paul Heckingbottom, meaning that the club's continued interest in Kikkenborg will be reliant on the 56-year-old's opinion of the Dane.

After scouting around the EFL for goalkeeping reinforcements during the summer, Luton settled on the signing of Blackburn Rovers man Thomas Kaminski, who has earned plaudits for his performances in recent weeks.

Wilder faces the unenviable task of preparing his Blades side for the visit of Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool on Wednesday night, with the Reds having the chance to cut the gap to league leaders Arsenal to just two points. body check tags ::
