Sheffield United manager David Weir has confirmed that he will not be signing striker Kris Boyd.
The 29-year-old, who played with Weir for three years at Rangers, is a free agent after his contract with Kilmarnock expired at the end of last season.
Weir has admitted that talks have been held with Boyd, but a deal will not be done.
"It is my decision that following lengthy chats with Kris, that this wouldn't be the right club for him to join at this time," Weir told the club's official website.
"I couldn't make a decision on his past achievements, although his goalscoring record throughout his career speaks for itself.
"He is someone I know well and is a good friend, but I have to make decisions for the good of this football club, not sentimental ones and we both realised it just wasn't going to be."
Boyd scored three goals in nine appearances for Kilmarnock last season.
