Sheffield Wednesday boss Dave Jones has revealed that he will not open contract talks with his players until their Championship status has been guaranteed.
The Owls have a number of first-team players coming to the end of their contracts, but Jones has insisted that survival is the main priority with four league matches remaining.
"When we are there, and not almost there, we will look at it. There's still a long way to go, nothing is guaranteed, everybody thought that 50 points would be the safety margin, we're on 53 and we're not safe yet," Jones told Sky Sports News.
"We need to keep plugging away and try and finish as high as we can. We said that contracts wouldn't get sorted until the end of the season and that's what we've stuck to.
"We want to try and assemble the best squad here, but we want to know what division we will be in before we have contractual talks and I'm sure the players do as well."
Wednesday currently sit 16th in the table, four points above the relegation zone.
